Meet this month’s guest speaker: Erika Wright

Wright is the Oklahoma Education Justice Organizer for Advance Oklahoma’s Kids, a project of the Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law & Justice. In this role, she works with state and national partners to shape strong public education policy and mobilize communities in support of Oklahoma’s schools. She is also the founder and director of the Oklahoma Rural Schools Coalition, a grassroots advocacy network of 18,000 members across all 77 counties.

Erika will introduce a preview of Better Outcomes for Oklahoma’s Kids (B.O.O.K.)—a bold five-year education agenda developed through a year-long research process to shift the narrative around public schools in our state. Inspired by the landmark bipartisan House Bill 1017 of 1990, B.O.O.K. outlines 16 policy recommendations across four themes: strengthening the teaching profession, ensuring adequate resources, improving student performance, and creating safe, supportive schools. With more than 700,000 Oklahoma students depending on public education, B.O.O.K. 2030 charts a clear path to stronger schools and better outcomes for every child.
